B.P.T. is 4½ years professional degree course including six months Internship. Physiotherapy is a healthcare profession which views sound health and well being. Physiotherapists work for health promotion, preventive advise, treatment & rehabilitation.
The core skills used by physiotherapist include manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and the application of electro-therapeutical modalities. Physiotherapists try to bring the patients into an independent condition. It covers the study of Anatomy, Physiology, Electrotherapy, Pharmacology, Exercise therapy, General medicines, General surgery, Orthopaedics, Neurology, and Paediatrics.
After completing the course the student becomes eligible for higher studies. The student can be absorbed into following areas: Outpatients: Treating spinal and joint problems, accidents and sports injuries. Intensive Care Unit : For the mobility of limbs and chests drainage. Women Health: Antenatal care, exercise and post-gynaecological operations. Geriatric Care: Rehabilitation after fall, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, mobility and independence. Neurology: Helping people restore normal movement and function in stroke, multiple sclerosis etc. Orthopaedic: Resorting Mobility following hip & knee replacement, spinal operations and after accidents. Mental Illness: For improving confidence self-staying exercise. Occupational Health: By preventing physical problems such as repetitive strain injuries in a community. Palliative Care: In a community or hospital treating patients with cancer and AIDS. Paediatrics: By treating the children with severe mental & physical handicaps and conditions like cerebral palsy and spin-bifida. Sports: Treating sports injuries and consultation for recovering fitness. Private Sector: Working independently as private practitioner or in Hospitals etc.
